1. MTV Felt So Bad For Chewbacca At The End Of A New Hope That They Gave Him A Belated Medal
It's one of the great injustices of the Star Wars series. At the end of A New Hope, after a daring mission to infiltrate the Empire's base and blow up the Death Star, Han and Luke are rewarded by being presented with a military commendation. But what about Han's co-pilot Chewie, who was just as important in securing the victory? Where's his reward? To make matters worse, they even make Chewbacca walk up alongside the other two and then don't reward him. At the close of the scene, Chewie growls, and it's suddenly apparent what he's actually saying: What the hell, guys? In 1997, MTV attempted to remedy this gross injustice by presenting Chewbacca with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the MTV Movie Awards. Peter Mayhew was decked out in full costume while the throne room music blared. Not only that, but the medal was awarded by Carrie Fisher herself. As for whether or not Chewbacca still holds a grudge, we'll probably never know. Personally, it just seems like too little too late. #JusticeForChewie Know any more amazing, little-known Star Wars facts? Show off your knowledge down in the comments.
