20 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Jurassic Park Franchise

11. The Water Ripple Was The Hardest Effect Of All

Spielberg€™s career is littered with visual flourishes that stay with audiences long after the credits roll. From Indiana Jones fleeing the giant boulder in the Raiders opening sequence to the image of Elliott€™s bicycle silhouetted against the moon in E.T., Spielberg has been responsible for more iconic images than arguably any filmmaker before or since. The glass of water rippling from the footsteps of an approaching T. rex certainly falls into that category; a moment that came to Spielberg when, while listening to Earth, Wind and Fire at high volume on his way to create storyboards, he noticed his rearview mirror vibrating from the effects of the bass. Michael Lantieri was the man charged with realising the image on screen, but much to his surprise it proved far more difficult to accomplish than the high-end VFX of dinosaurs rampaging through the screen. Lantieri was stumped until the night before the shot, when he placed a glass of water on a guitar, plucked the strings and found exactly what he was looking for. The next day, Lantieri brought guitar strings to the set and fed one through the car€™s dashboard down to the ground, where a crew member plucked the string and helped create a small slice of cinema history.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
