20 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Jurassic Park Franchise

12. Spielberg Changed The Ending Because Of The T. Rex

Whatever problems the effects crew encountered in keeping the T. rex functional and fit for purpose, their efforts were more than worth it. More than two decades later the effects still hold up superbly, and the first T. rex sequence was so successful that it forced Spielberg to change his ending in order to accommodate the star of the show. The original finale was still set to take place in the Park€™s Visitors Centre and have Dr. Grant save Tim and Lex from the raptors by using the massive T. rex skeleton to crush the pair of predators. However, after seeing the results of the T. rex attack Spielberg reasoned that €œthe audience will hate me if the T. rex doesn€™t come back and make one more heroic appearance,€ electing to write a new ending mere weeks before production wrapped. Emboldened by the early tests and assembled footage, Spielberg and his crew decided to rely completely on CGI for the final sequence rather than combine models and animatronics with computer graphics as they had done throughout shooting. Any fears over the ambitious decision were soon laid to rest, with Spielberg remarking, €œAfter a while we were shooting this thing like we€™d been doing CG movies for ten years.€
