Perhaps inspired by the floating journey an unnamed Minion took in the first movie, the "Despicablimp" launched well in advance of Despicable Me 2 and started touring the country to drum up enthusiasm for the film.

Employing two pilots and a crew of 14, the blimp made its first appearance at the Kid’s Choice Awards on March 23, and one of its final official appearances at the LA world premiere of Despicable Me 2 on June 22. It normally flew low, about 1,000 feet up, to give as many people as possible a good look at the Minion's smiling mug. At the time it was operational, it was one of only 15 airships flying in the world.
