20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Harry Potter

6. The Goblet Of Fire Was Originally Going To Be Split Into Two Films

Originally, Warner Bros. wanted to convince director Mike Newell to make two movies out of The Goblet Of Fire, which boasted more than double the pages of any of the previous three books. Newell, however, declined (with some nudging from previous director Alfonso Cuaron), insisting that plenty of needless subplots could be trimmed without compromising the whole, and of course, he proved to be correct. It's unknown when during the negotiations process this was hammered out, but it's interesting that Newell was only paid $1 million to direct the movie, whereas Chris Columbus received $10 million to direct The Philosopher's Stone, on top of a back-end revenue deal. Sour grapes, Warner?
