20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Harry Potter

2. Warner Bros. Received Death Threats For Delaying The Half-Blood Prince

The Half-Blood Prince was originally set to be released on November 20th, 2008, but Warner Bros. decided to delay it until July 16th, 2009. While the official reason given was due to the writer's strike, it was widely accepted that the delay was due to The Dark Knight's astronomical box office success the previous summer, and Warner wanting to release the next Potter film in that same successful July week. The film made $934.4 million as a result, but would it really have been much worse in the prior November? The first Potter movie came out in November and still made $974.7 million... Regardless, the decision to delay the movie was met with a massive backlash by fans, the majority of whom saw through Warner's ruse. Things got so heated that Warner actually received death threats over the delay and comments such as "I hope you choke on your own saliva", in addition to a petition of 45,000+ signatures demanding that the decision be reversed. Naturally, it wasn't.
