1. Ian McKellen Was Offered The Dumbledore Role After Richard Harris Died
After actor Richard Harris sadly passed away shortly following completing his work as Dumbledore on The Chamber Of Secrets, Warners began seeking a replacement actor, and turned to none other than Gandalf himself, Ian McKellen, to fill the part. However, McKellen declined with pure class, stating, "I had enough trouble living up to one legend. Two would be too much to hope for." Though it can only be a coincidence, there's also a painting of Gandalf the Grey hidden in Dumbledore's study in The Chamber Of Secrets. Would McKellen have totally killed the part? Absolutely, but it's easy to understand why he didn't want to add more fanboy (and girl) weight to his already burdened shoulders. Which mind-blowing Harry Potter fact shocked you the most? Shout it out in the comments!
