17. Michael Jackson Wanted To Make A Harry Potter Musical

Believe it or not, but Michael Jackson initially approached J.K. Rowling about the prospect of adapting Potter into a musical, but Rowling, shrewd with ideas as she is, duly turned the pop icon down. Rowling did later say, however, that she learned a lot from Jackson about how to let go of her mammoth franchise and move onto other things, declaring, "He wanted to do 'Thriller' again and again and again and instead of accepting that he had produced one of the best albums of all time... It's very, very sad that someone with that amount of talent would be chasing that." It's probably for the best, really. As absurdly talented as Jackson was, the idea of him making a musical involving school children would simply have rubbed too many people up the wrong way, and it certainly wouldn't have been as financially successful as the movie series.
