20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About James Bond
11. George Lazenby Only Ever Wanted To Do One Film
Of all the Bonds, one-time wonder George Lazenby gets the worst rap. The Australian model, who got the role after Albert Broccoli spotted him in an advert for Fry's Chocolate, was generally deemed to lack the acting chops needed for the role and it is often assumed he was unceremoniously sacked from the franchise. However, the truth is that he decided to leave the role to, basically, become a hippy. Shortly after filming on On Her Majesty's Secret Service completed, Lazenby became convinced that the traditionalist Bond would be old-fashioned in the liberated 70s. So sure was he that he would leave the role, Lazenby turned up to the film's premiere with shoulder-length hair and a beard, angering the producers. Lazenby soon after announced: "Bond is a brute. I've already put him behind me. I will never play him again. Peace - that's the message now."
