20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About James Bond

4. He Also Isn't Actually English

James Bond is a cast-iron British icon - which in the wider world means English (sorry Scotland, Wales and Ireland). Yet, in fact, Bond isn't English at all. And we're not talking about the fact that only two of the actors (in the films) are English - Moore and Craig. The character of Bond isn't even English. As Skyfall hinted, Bond was raised in Scotland by his Scot father Andrew and his Swiss mother Monique. He only moved to England once his parents died in a mountain climbing accident. Under the care of his aunt, he lived in the wonderfully Bondian-sounding village of Pett Bottom. Extra fact: this backstory was actually established by Fleming after the films came out, as he was so impressed with the Scottish Sean Connery's performance.
