20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About James Bond

5. James Bond Has Been Played By More Than Six Actors

As everyone knows, there are six James Bonds. To date, only Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore,Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig have been given a license to kill (only in character you understand). Right? Wrong. And this doesn't just refer to ol' Bob Simmons. He doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. First off, there was Barry Nelson, who has the honour of being the first man to play the character in a US TV version of Casino Royale from 1954. Interestingly, he played Bond as an American called Jimmy. Later on, David Niven played a retired Sir James Bond in the 1967 spoof of Casino Royale. In the film, all other secret agents are named James Bond to trick the enemy, meaning it could be said the likes of Peter Sellers, Woody Allen and Ursula Andress (Honey Rider in Dr. No) played the part too. Stretching out of the cinema, actors Bob Holness, Michael Jayston and Toby Stephens (Die Another Day's Gustav Graves) have all played Bond on radio. And, if voice work is taken into account, George Baker, the man who dubbed Lazenby for a large chunk of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, is yet another Bond.
