20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Terminator Franchise

1. Terminator 5 Was Almost A 3D Animated Movie

In 2010, before the fate of the Terminator franchise went up in the air due to rights issues, there was the very real possibility that the next instalment was going to be a 3D animated movie. Announced by the joint team of Hannover House and Red Bear Entertainment, Terminator 5 - or Terminator 3000, as it was known - was budgeted at $70 million and was proposed as an all-animated 3D reboot. The film was set to begin production in January 2011, but a cease and desist letter from Pacificor - the hedge fund company that at that point owned the rights to the franchise - put a stop to it just before work began. Another version of Terminator 5, directed by Justin Lin and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, came up in 2011, but yet again legal troubles held the project up. It wasn't until Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures bought the Terminator rights that production on Genisys would legally, and finally, begin.
