20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Terminator Franchise

2. Terminator Salvation Was Supposed To Be The First In A New Trilogy

Christian Bale is right to feel scorned by his Terminator Salvation experience - not only did he gain an unreasonable reputation as a result of that YouTube video, but the film performed so poorly that the new franchise train Bale had jumped on stopped well before it reached its destination. Salvation was intended not just as a standalone Terminator spin-off, but the first in a proposed trilogy. Though the disappointment of Salvation no doubt added to the drama, disputes over the rights to the Terminator franchise ultimately sunk the idea of the Future War saga. Now, Terminator Genisys is set to be the beginning of yet another new trilogy.
