20 Most Critically Adored Films Of 2015

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

Rotten Tomatoes: 97% From 331 Reviews Soft reboots of beloved '80s and '90s film properties aren't supposed to work: they're invariably messy, too modernised and always miss the point of the originals. That's why the decision to let George Miller follow through on his long gestation for Mad Max 4 even when Mel Gibson got too old and the idea of a Mad Max film passed into antiquity. Luckily for everyone, Miller has lost nothing of his ludicrously entertaining creative drive or his wild imagination, and the advances in technology, which could have killed the original trilogy's delightful muckiness were adopted to stunning effect. It's rare any film manages to leave your jaw-dropping once, but Fury Road did it multiple times. And incredibly, it wasn't even all that much about Max, allowing Charlize Theron to shine as Furiosa while Tom Hardy pulled his ever-brilliant silent hulking action star routine. A worthy critical darling. Sample Review:
"Fury Road is a defiantly individual riposte to those committee-led blockbusters which are built on CGI and designed to sell toys." - Nichola Barber, BBC
