20 Most Annoying Movie Characters Since 2000

From Bella Swan to Claire Dearing's heels, who are cinema's most annoying characters since Y2K?

Cinema is a fickle beast - one person's favorite character is another person's worst nightmare. But don't you just hate it when one character in particular ruins a perfectly good film?

It's a persistent issue, from American Pie's Stiffler constantly thinking with his penis, to Jurassic Park being dogged with possibly world's most punchable children.

It seems to be a problem that has gotten worse in recent years, and nowadays there are pouty teens, smug Jack the Lads, and characters that have you screaming "why" at the screen in nearly every film. The problems get even worse when the main character holding up a franchise is more grating than nails down a blackboard. Whole legacies have been destroyed by one insufferable person.

Some creations are just born to be annoying, and obviously, Jar Jar Binks would universally top any list of infuriating incarnations. However, with his appearance thankfully confined mainly to The Phantom Menace, he just missed out on a new millennium of annoyance. From hopeless heroines to mediocre male leads, these are the most annoying big screen characters of the century. Get ready to throw your popcorn at the screen, it's going to bring out all sorts of rage.

20. Rachel Dawes

Warner Bros

Portrayed By: Katie Holmes/Maggie Gyllenhaal

Appeared In: Batman Begins/The Dark Knight

Both Holmes and Gyllenhaal couldn't save the one-dimensional love interest who was destined for an early Gwen Stacy-esque grave. With Batman's history full of so many female counterparts, why did Nolan decide to create his own weaker version of the women who had come before? Dawes was annoying because she was just a little dull. Unfortunately, we had been treated to the likes of Vicki Vale, Dr. Chase Meridian, and of course Pfeiffer's Catwoman. Dawes distanced herself so far from those stereotypes, she became a bland addition. A man as daring as Batman/Bruce Wayne would never have fallen for this wet lettuce.

Admittedly Rachel did have balls, but slapping everyone's favorite hero for wanting to take revenge on the man who killed his parents isn't going to win you any fan points. Bruce literally spends his entire childhood waiting to be with Rachel, then she went and shacked up with a (soon to be) maniac and got herself blown up - that's karma for you. At least opened the door for Selina Kyle to enter out lives again.
