20 Most Anticipated Horror Films Right Now

1. The Babadook (2014)

The Babadook The advance word on this Australian horror is great with Kim Newman recently awarding the film five out of five (high praise indeed). The film has been written and directed by Aussie TV actress Jennifer Kent and, after her 2005 short Monster, the jump to the big screen has clearly been an easy one. The film follows Amelia who, six years earlier, lost her husband in a car crash when he was driving her to the hospital to give birth to their son. Since then, six year old Samuel has been out of control and always manages to say and do the wrong things. Samuel dreams that the boogeyman is coming to kill them both and when a mysterious book, Mister Babadook, turns up at their house, Amelia begins to see the monster too. Perhaps initially following in the Boogeyman myth explored recently in Sinister and Insidious, Kent has apparently managed to craft a tense and terrifying horror which is both brilliantly directed and acted. Also, it currently has a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes which, while not proving anything, shows that those that see it, love it.
