13. Thanksgiving 2
Eli Roth's Thanksgiving started as a joke trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez' Grindhouse double-feature. However, it wasn't long before the Hostel director got the ball rolling on turning this gag into a real movie.
Due to a slew of problems, Thanksgiving didn't see the light of day for well over a decade, being bombarded by delay after delay.
To the surprise of many, the film is probably Roth's finest work yet. Although a holiday-themed serial killer is nothing new, the movie works thanks to the sharp script, innovative kills, and tremendous performances, especially Rich Hoffman, who's having a ball chewing scenery (as well as turkey).
As such, it's gratifying to hear a sequel isn't too far away. At the moment, nothing is known about Thanksgiving 2, save for the fact it's once again being written by Jeff Rendell and Eli Roth, and if the creators maintain the standards of the original, they may kick off a lucrative slasher franchise.
