12. Saw XI
Though Saw 3D was meant to conclude James Wan and Leigh Whannell's horror saga, a follow-up was greenlit several years later. But after two soft reboots failed to win anyone over, it seemed like it was Game Over for the formally unstoppable franchise.
Though nobody was expecting much from the tenth instalment, Saw X was far better than it had any right to be. Serving as a direct continuation of the original, this sidequel made overarching villain John Kramer the protagonist for a change, creating a more personal story.
Since Saw X recouped over ten times its budget, another sequel got the thumbs up. Details are hush-hush, but producer Oren Koules stated Saw XI may be a direct sequel. After all, Saw X's antagonist, Cecilia, is still alive, so she may try to exact her revenge on the trap-obsessed engineer in the next film.
Also, Saw X's post-credits scene saw the return of Jigsaw's successor, Hoffman, suggesting he could be brought back as well. He was supposedly killed in Saw 3D, but his body was never seen, so his restoration is possible.
