The MCU has been running on fumes for a while, and head honcho Kevin Feige knows it. It has been six years since the overarching storyline of overarching storylines ended in Avengers: Endgame, and, despite valiant efforts to make something coherent out of the multiverse, the series has been lacking a Thanos-like presence to keep it tied together.

So, what better way to try and get things back on track to return to where we left off? Feige has snagged Infinity War/Endgame directors the Russo brothers, he’s signed Robert Downey Jr. back on, and he’s finally putting out another Avengers film: Doomsday.

The Fantastic Four returned to our screens this year in First Steps, and while the movie is not an all-time great of the MCU, it is the best iteration of the F4 on screen and has teed up the conflict for Doomsday. That’s because the big bad this time around is going to be F4 villain Doctor Doom (Downey), doing battle across the multiverse. The film is set to unite whatever form the Avengers take these days, the so-called New Avengers (Thunderbolts), the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, and Fox’s X-Men, which Disney-Marvel has acquired in the interim.

The cast and scope of Avengers: Doomsday is ginormous, and whether it lands or falls flat on its face, it will be quite something to witness.
