14. Ghost Stories

Halloween movie
Lionsgate

After causing quite a stir with their original stage play (notorious for its warnings to the faint-hearted, and promises of medical staff on standby in the aisles to aid those who can't take the terror), writer-director duo James Dyson and Andy Nyman bring Ghost Stories to the big screen.

Nyman heads things up as a parapsychologist devoted to debunking claims of ghostly goings-on, but finds his convictions sorely tested by a trio of strange, scary new cases. And Nyman has some impressive co-stars in Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse (the comedian cast a bit against type in comparatively straight role), and relative newcomer Alex Lawther (who recently made a splash in the lead role of TV's The End of the F***ing World).

Ghost Stories premiered at the London Film Festival in October, and at the time of writing it scores 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (though it should be noted that's on the strength of 6 counted reviews).

Release: 13 April (UK)
