20 Most Badass Female Horror Characters Ever

8. Carrie White - Carrie

Horror Women Lola Stone Sarah Carter Erin Hanson
Warner Bros. Pictures

Carrie White is a young girl with supernatural powers who’s abused at home by her mother, and so you simultaneously fear her and sympathize with her. She’s like a ticking time bomb that you’re just waiting to go off, and after all the horrifying bullying lobbed at her throughout the first act, you almost want it to.

It’s a totally badass but kind of terrifying moment when she finally stands up to her mother and throws her on the bed using her powers, and things only get crazier from there with the high school massacre. As she’s standing on stage covered in blood and the entire crowd is laughing, part of you does want to see Carrie get her revenge, but then how can you be rooting for the death of a bunch of high school kids?

Sissy Spacek is brilliant and unforgettable in the role. Chloe Moretz does a fine job portraying Carrie in the 2013 remake, although her performance is a bit less unsettling than Spacek’s in the 1976 version. Kind of like Lola from The Loved Ones and Angela from Sleepaway Camp, Carrie is someone who makes you feel for her one minute and then scares you the next, and it's hard to forget that image of her murdering dozens of people all while standing completely still with that wide-eyed stare.
