20 Most Badass Female Horror Characters Ever

18. Angela Baker - Sleepaway Camp

Sleepaway Camp is one of the most bizarre slasher movies out there, introducing audiences to Angela Baker. She’s a troubled girl whose father and brother died in an accident when she was very young, and at the beginning of the film she's sent off to camp.

She seems pretty innocent as all the murders are happening, but in the final scene it’s revealed that not only is Angela the killer, but she’s actually a boy. It was the daughter, not the son, who died in the accident years ago, and in the aftermath the son was raised as a girl.

In Sleepaway Camp II, Angela undergoes gender reassignment surgery and electroshock therapy, but she quickly returns to her murderous ways and begins killing campers as punishment for their bad behavior. She’s one of the only transgender horror characters ever put to screen, and she’s actually a really sympathetic villain. You get the sense that she isn’t killing because she enjoys it; all her murders are a result of a psychological breakdown, and each movie she tries to get better but constantly fails.

This is especially effective in the first film, as a lot of Angela’s actions are left to the imagination. She's a great slasher villain who definitely would have been ranked up there with Freddy and Jason if these movies were more popular in the mainstream.
