13. Dawn of the Dead - Zombie Kiddie Shooting (1978)

In my personal opinion, Dawn of the Dead not only set a zombie film blueprint which is being followed up to this day, it also set the bar for new levels of blood and guts and violence in films. The film is astonishingly violent. Zombies are being shot, bludgeoned to death, decapitated every 2-3 minutes. If this was human on human violence it would be disgusting and intolerable, but as it is zombies, we sort of cheer on the killing, especially if it is a close call. One scene caused a lot of problems for Dawn of the Dead. It happened when our heroes landed to get some helicopter fuel and they go exploring. Out come running zombie children ready to nosh on them to death. The heroes don't want to do it but they have to shoot zombie children. I wonder how it took so long for them to encounter zombie kids? And why are there no kids in the shopping mall either? Kids love the mall and all we get is a Hare Krishna and a Nun.
