20 Most Controversial Scenes In Cinema History

15. Basic Instinct (1992)

Basic Instinct There is a lot about Basic Instinct that is controversial and seedy - the ice pick murders, homocidal lesbians, but the one controversial sequence everyone remembers - even those who haven't seen the film - is the guest appearance of Sharon Stone's muff for a second and a half. This occurs when her character is questioned in a police station about the murder of an ex-rock star, killed in an identical way to a book she had written. Wearing a white dress she lights a cigarette and refuses to put it out. The close scrutiny doesn't faze her. And all of a sudden she does it! The legs get uncrossed! Never has there been such a brazen display of muff-age in Hollywood history. This scene captured the imagination of the public and turned Basic Instinct into a smash hit. All over a bit of muff!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
