13. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

A film of total unrelenting terror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been terrifying audiences since its inception in 1974. Brutally violent, but not particularly gory, Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been franchised to death, but the original will always remain the scariest and the most highly regarded. The controversial scene in Texas Chainsaw Massacre is long, protracted and will put your teeth on edge. Everybody is dead bar Sally and she has the pleasure of being guest of honour at Leatherface's family's dinner. Understandably she is terrified. The men roll out grandpa who must be about 120 years old. They want him to kill Sally and put a hammer in his hand to bash her brains in, but he is too feeble. In the confusion, Sally manages to break free and jump through the window. She makes her way to the road with a chainsaw wielding Leatherface in hot pursuit. She escapes by the skin of her teeth onto the back of a truck, screaming her head off, covered in blood. Leatherface remains doing some pretty impressive aerial displays of chainsaw brandishing in frustration The scene is controversial for the above protracted torture and nastiness scene towards a young woman. Poor Sally will never be the same again.
