9. Island Of Death (1977)
A brother and sister - Christopher and Celia - indulge in an incestuous relationship and terrorise the town they live in on a small Greek island. There is sex with a goat, a man killed by enforced paint drinking, a gay couple brutally slaughtered, a woman getting her head chopped off by a bulldozer, golden showers, a lesbian heroin addict being killed by an aerosol blowtorch and a British policeman who has come to investigate gets hanged from a plane! After facilitating these crimes, Celia falls in love with a simple farmer and shags him silly while Christopher dies on top of a pit of quick lime, the rain falling fast. Again this is another Video Nasty that was resubmitted to the BBFC in the noughties. It was passed, but butchered so badly - it was positively turgid with crap and looked like a really deranged Benny Hill show. All of the filth was lifted and the film lacked any sense of chutzpah. Admittedly, Island of Death is not a good film - being poorly directed and atrociously acted - but we pay our money for illicit thrills and that's what the censored versions of Island of Death fail to deliver. Definitely one for the Region 1 Christmas stocking. Controversial because: it contains a litany of sexually perverted and violent acts that it would take me all day to list.
