8. The Beast In Heat (1977)
Obnoxious Nasty Nazi film that is also unintentionally hilarious at the same time, The Beast in Heat was one of the more sought after Video Nasties and used to change hands for a couple of hundred quid. Quite why anyone wanted to watch this film is a mystery, but I shall do my best to forge through the nonsense. The copy I have, has no opening credits, just a sign saying "Horrifing (sic) Last Days of SS". Macha Magall - Dr Helene - plays a sadistic SS Officer who has bred a gurning, sexually voracious, violent "Beast" as some sort of perverted war weapon. He regularly gets to rape and kill female prisoners - in one infamous scene chowing down on a woman's genitals and coming up with a mouth full of flesh and pubic hair. There is also a dopey Resistance fighter plot going on this whole time that appears to comprise of scenes spliced from another movie. There is a baby shot by Nazis but much of the film dwells on the antics of the Beast who soon gets a chance to get up close and personal with his creator Dr Helene. Silly in the extreme, the film is too stupidly made and clumsy in its execution that you can't really get offended by it - unlike Gestapo's Last Orgy which has an offensive ideology and is a film with relatively high production values. Numerous questions go unanswered - such as how did Dr Helene breed a half man/half ape so quickly? Since when did guinea pigs become blood thirsty entrails eaters? All of this pondering will take up the bulk of your viewing time in which you might think that you have accidentally ingested crazy substances. Psychotronic voyagers be warned! Controversial because: the antics of the titular beast.
