Director Jonathan Glazer emerged from 2014 as a filmmaker once again worth keeping your eye on. After a ten year creative haitus following on from Birth, his bizarre, experimental film Under The Skin put him firmly back on the cinematic map. In 2000, his debut movie Sexy Beast already showed that he was a director with a real talent for visual flair and invention. It tells of a former gangster (Ray Winstone) living out his retirement in Spain who suddenly finds himself expected to do one last job after nutcase Don Logan (Ben Kingsley) arrives at his villa. Kingsley's against type performance was duly recognised when Sexy Beast first came out (it's about as far from Gandhi as you can possibly get), but more recently British gangster flicks such as those by Guy Ritchie tend to get far more attention than they deserve, and Sexy Beast is a superior effort in every respect.
