8. X2: X-Men United
Rating: 87%
Coming straight off the back of Bryan Singer's first X-Men movie, this sequel explored Wolverine’s origins and wove interesting social themes throughout the film. Bobby’s ‘coming out’ about being a mutant directly mirrored the experiences of many homosexuals, while Pyro’s switching of allegiance showed how Xavier and Magneto were simply two reactions to the same stigma.
The first three X-Men movies could have been a spectacular trilogy, it’s just a shame that Brett Ratner let The Last Stand go to waste, squandering this potentially explosive trilogy.
