20 Most Epic Movie Moments Of 2016
4. The Opening Dance Number - La La Land
La La Land opens with easily one of the most memorable sequences from any musical in cinematic history, an elaborate, six-minute dance number set on the L.A. freeway which appears to be performed in one mesmerising single take.
Of course, director Damien Chazelle actually seamlessly blended three takes into one for the sequence, but it's still a jaw-dropping achievement, giving the movie an incredibly slick feel from the outset and demonstrating how Chazelle has grown as a filmmaker since Whiplash.
While it arguably sets the bar too high right out of the gate as nothing else in the movie quite manages to top this bravura sequence, it's absolutely fascinating to observe and makes audiences unequivocally aware of quite what they've signed up for.
