20 Most Extreme Horror Films Of All Time

14. August Underground (2001)

Tokyo Gore Police
Toetag Pictures

Truth be told, the only assurance that August Underground is a legitimate movie is that it exists on both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes; otherwise, it might be safe to assume that this super-low-budget nightmare was an actual snuff film.

The plot? Two serial killers go on a murdering binge as one films the outcome from behind a video camera - and that's about it. The film doesn't waste any time building the characters up, almost nothing is known about these murderers or their victims. There's nipple chopping, castration, feces smearing and it's never a pretty sight.

The fact that the movie is so badly choreographed helps add to the found footage vibe the film was going for. Unlike mainstream horror films like Paranormal Activity where everything is always conveniently framed, this film frames next to nothing. Whether intentional or not, the end result is quite deplorable and beyond sickening.
