1. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu

Billed As: The first live-action animated Pokémon movie follows a young man called Tim (Justice Smith) who comes across an intelligent detective Pikachu (voiced by Ryan Reynolds) who only he understands. They team up to find out what happened to Tim’s missing detective father.

Hype: Pokémon remains as popular as ever, especially with the rise of Pokémon Go pulling in new fans. Aside from the entries from Marvel, Detective Pikachu is one of the biggest movies coming out this year.

Reynolds probably isn’t who anyone would’ve chosen to voice Pikachu, especially as Pikachu’s typical persona is quite adorable – but for the Pikachu created within the movie’s world (an intelligent detective), it seems to work really well based on the trailers so far.

Bringing Pokémon into the real world with animation is a first, and surprisingly they don’t look awful and instead are really well designed. The trailers manage to show a wide array of them lurking about, and exploring them further within the movie will be a wonderful experience for many as they pick out their favourites.

Detective Pikachu is actually projected to do so well that a sequel is already in development. As Avengers: Endgame is now out, you don’t want to miss the next big blockbuster!
