20 Most Iconic Monster Introductions In Movie History

6. The Thing - The Thing

For the most part monsters in movies have a clearly defined appearance which the audience can instantly recognise - for his update of The Thing, John Carpenter took the brave decision to make his monster a weird shape-shifting mass which fuses elements of its previous victims. Perhaps more than any other movie, The Thing stands as a testament to the effectiveness of practical effects - the disgusting, bloody, fleshy mass which makes up the creature in its various guises is a marvel of prosthetic effects, puppets and animatronics and is perhaps the best work done by Rob Bottin (with Stan Winston helping out from time to time). The dog transformation scene is guaranteed to turn the stomach of anyone who sees it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtgFKdWcKXY
