20 Most Iconic Monster Introductions In Movie History

2. The Werewolf - An American Werewolf In London

In the early 1980s there were two huge horror movies based on werewolves both vying for the attention of fans - The Howling may have featured some exceptional effects from Rob "The Thing" Bottin, but it was the John Landis-directed An American Werewolf In London which ended up lighting up the box office. It's not hard to see why - The Howling is certainly an underrated horror movie that deserves a wider audience, but Landis's masterpiece, with its depiction of weird locals and undercurrent of humour emerges the better film. The werewolf transformation scene is a jaw-dropping feat of prosthetics and make-up which blows the CGI scenes from the likes of Underworld completely out of the water. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFLQS12z8K4
