7. Krug Marks His Territory - The Last House On The Left (1972)
Based loosely on Ingmar Bergman’s The Virgin Spring, Wes Craven’s vicious directorial debut follows young Mari (Sandra Cassel), who has just turned 17 and her friend Phyllis (Lucy Grantham) from "the wrong side of town," as they head out for a concert featuring a band named Blood Lust. They never make it to the concert, but their abductors satisfy their own need for blood and lust.
This merry band of lunatics are headed by Krug (David Hess), who is undoubtedly the worst of the worst. After the group makes an impromptu stop in the woods, the girls are faced with unspeakable acts of violence.
After Phyllis is ultimately killed, Mari faces the worst of it. Krug proceeds to carve his name into Mari's chest, then rapes her. Mari vomits, quietly says a prayer, and walks into the nearby lake to clean herself. Krug fatally shoots her, leaving her body floating in the lake. The aftermath of all this is oddly serene, almost as if Craven wanted to give you a few moments to collect your thoughts after witnessing such brutality.
