You certainly can't fault the ambition of director David Fincher here: his tale of a man aging backwards may feel way too similar to Forrest Gump at times (both were written by Eric Roth), but it's a majestic, beautiful story with marvelous performances and a beefy 166-minute run-time that just flies by.

It ultimately trades in a lot of melodrama and feels more anonymously directed than Fincher's other movies, but the fascinating premise and outstanding technical feats nevertheless make it a sumptuous, alluring effort all the same.
