10. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi (#75)
Have you actually sat down to watch Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi lately? If so, were you shocked to see how... well, naff... it was in places? Us, too. Presumably as a result of nostalgia-based brainwashing, Return of the Jedi has always "felt" like a great film to those of us who grew up watching it. Approaching the movie in adulthood, however, heeds unexpected results: so much of the third Star Wars film feels half-arsed and lacking. That's to say, Return of the Jedi clings to a razor-thin plot, turns Han Solo into a sentimental loser, and - worst of all - gave us the Ewoks. Everyone hates Ewoks, of course, but there are other more pressing issues at hand. Fact is, Return of the Jedi was a major step down from the dark, tightly-plotted genius of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. It's time to admit that we've all gone far too easy on this flick; it's marginally cringeworthy.
Sam Hill is an ardent cinephile and has been writing about film professionally since 2008. He harbours a particular fondness for western and sci-fi movies.
