Due to the ever-expanding nature of the franchise (there have been ten movies and a couple of interlinked television shows to date), the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quickly filling up with all manner of powerful individuals. Both heroes and villains alike have displayed powers and abilities of an impressive and highly destructive nature and there are many more characters with those capabilities on the way (Ultron, various heroes, the Inhumans etc). But who is the most powerful of them all (at least of the characters we've seen so far)? Who holds the title of most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date? This article is going to definitively list the notable characters of the biggest comic book movie franchise in the world right now in order of their power level. Be prepared to see everything from vaguely superhuman characters to monsters capable of levelling cities.
Honourable Mentions: Thanos & Odin
There's no doubt that these two characters - both of whom have (now) made full appearances in movies - are implied as being the most powerful that audiences have seen so far. However, there's very little to quantify that at this stage. Thanos has outright been described as the most powerful being in the franchise, while Odin has the ability to depower Thor at will, but in terms of them actually displaying any strength, destructive power or real combat prowess, there's either nothing (for Thanos) or very little (for Odin) to go on. So, while they probably belong right at the very top of this list, they will remain honourably mentioned for two reasons; first of all, there's the aforementioned fact that they haven't proven themselves yet and, second, they're implied as being so godlike that it would probably be unfair to put them in the same bracket as the other characters.
