Deathlok aka Mike Peterson was an ordinary man until he was approached by a secret group and granted superpowers from the Centipede Serum - a mixture of the Extremis virus, Gamma radiation, the Super Soldier Serum and Chan Ho Yin's blood platelets. He was developed superhuman strength and durability after the experiment, to the extent that him landing after jumping from several stories high merely damaged the concrete beneath him. Eventually the group behind his transformation attempted to eliminate him after he threatened to expose their secrets and he ended up joining S.H.I.E.L.D. Whilst a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, he was involved in an explosion which damaged his body and he was recaptured by the Centipede group, who gave him cybernetic enhancements. In addition to his superhuman physical statistics, he now has built in weaponry capable of causing serious ranged damage and is therefore a danger in close combat and from afar.
