20 Most Rewatchable Movies Of The 21st Century
2. Anchorman (2004)
Even if you don't like Anchorman, chances are you've been MADE to rewatch it at least a couple of times. The film has surpassed 'cult comedy' and become a legendary movie: as well as being one of the most quotable movies ever made, it's a cultural phenomenon that people of a certain generation have to watch in order to become part of the conversation.
Which isn't to say watching Anchorman is a chore: the combination of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and, to a lesser extent, David Koechner at a time when their careers were just taking off makes for a potent comedy stew. Whether he's punting Baxter, unveiling Brian Fantana's personal perfumery, having Brick kill a man with a trident, turning Champ Kind into an emotional wreck or trapping Ron Burgundy in a glass case of emotion, director Adam McKay moves from scene to scene with reckless abandon and a wilful stupidity that no comedy in this new millennium has matched.
It's essentially an absurd collection of skits made by a group of comic minds working at their (largely improvised) best, and it's still the mighty Will Ferrell's finest moment yet.
