20 Most Rewatchable Movies Of The 21st Century
15. Almost Famous (2000)
Quentin Tarantino once described Dazed And Confused as "maybe the greatest hangout movie ever made", a movie you can return to over and over only to find it's just like catching up with old friends. The same can surely be said of Almost Famous, Dazed's 21st century equivalent, built on such good vibes and writer-director Cameron Crowe's intimate knowledge of the period (from a very personal script) that it's impossible not to like.
Set amongst America's music scene in the early 70s, Almost Famous is a partial autobiography of Crowe's, with his placeholder lead (played by Patrick Fugit) documenting the rise of fictional rock band Stillwater, as they take an eventful tour across the US. With acid party freak outs, a brilliant supporting turn full of warped inspiration from Philip Seymour Hoffman and a turbulent flight of last-minute confessions, you'll experience a part of musical history along with some superbly drawn characters.
You don't know these people, but Crowe did, and by the end of Almost Famous, you'll wish you had too.
