7. Nick Fury's "Death" - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Moment: Nick Fury is shot dead by The Winter Soldier, ending up on a morgue slab...only to miraculously re-appear like an hour later, having faked his death with the help of a heart-rate suppressant developed by Bruce Banner.
Why It's Ridiculous: Because Nick Fury's death would've actually meant something and been a bold way to move the series forward in a meaningful way. Instead, it's played for a pretty cheap trick, both in terms of the silly heart-rate drug and the fact that anyone who watched the trailers enough probably realised it was a fake-out, as a brief shot from his re-appearance was featured in one of them.
The problem is that the more you screw with the audience regarding "dead" characters, the less they're going to care about the stakes, and the more they're going to assume you're just setting them up for yet another rug-pull.
