20 Most Ridiculous Movie Twists Of All Time

16. No Way Out

no-way-out-1987The Plot: In this taut thriller Kevin Costner's naval officer Tom Farrell begins a passionate affair with Sean Young who also happens to be sleeping with Gene Hackman's Secretary of Defense David Bryce, who, in a jealous rage kills Young. Bryce is persuaded against turning himself in and instead concocts a story that she was sleeping with a Russian spy called 'Yuri'. Bryce charges Farrell with finding 'Yuri' which sets in motion a tense race against the clock as Farrell tries to exonerate himself and implicate Bryce. The Twist: In this ridiculously original twist the audience see the 'hero' Tom Farrell visit Young's grave at the end of the film after clearing his name only to be approached by two Russians. Turns out the all American hero Farrell is actually a Russian sleeper agent who had been passing secrets back to Russia all along.

15. Saw

Adam_Saw_2The Plot: In James Wan's independent horror movie, two men are kidnapped and chained up in a subterranean bathroom with a corpse and instructions on how to escape if they want to save their families. With the police closing in they take drastic measures to escape their prison but it doesn't really go the way they hoped... The Twist: When one protagonist gets shot and the other cuts off his own leg with a hacksaw you'd be forgiven for thinking they've had a pretty bad day but things get worse when the 'corpse' in the bathroom stands up, revealing himself to be the killer responsible for everything, and then locks them in the bathroom, presumably forever...or until sequel number 28(?) as well as proving he'd make one hell of a living statue.

14. The Skin I Live In

2the skin i live inThe Plot: In this amazing Spanish psychological thriller by Pedro Almodovar we follow Antonio Banderas' creepy surgeon and a woman (Elena Anaya) he keeps prisoner in his home. Flashbacks reveal the woman to be Antonio Banderas' beloved wife but also hint at tragedy and murder. The Twist: In lesser hands a plot twist this ridiculous should never work but in the hands of Almodovar it not only works but will have every man who watches squirming in his seat. Flashbacks reveal that Banderas' wife and daughter both killed themselves years earlier and that the woman kept prisoner is in fact not his wife but a young man who Banderas has turned into his wife via sex reassignment surgery. Two things strike you after watching this film. Firstly, the scene where the boy wakes up to be told he's just had vaginaplasty performed on him is pretty terrifying and secondly, when you see Elena Anaya you think Antonio Banderas must be one hell of a surgeon...
