20 Most Ridiculous Overreactions From Famous Film Characters

10. Tommy DeVito Kills For Shoeshines And Mistaken Drinks Orders €“ Goodfellas

Goodfellas - Tommy DeVito Joe Pesci€™s Tommy is terrifying, and fortunately extremely dumb. The man suffers violent overreactions like you or I suffer from social awkwardness €“ many times and often. Fortunately, in such a wildly violent world as New York underworld, this can earn a man a reputation. Unfortunately, if you€™re as ill-judged in your moodswings as Tommy, it can earn you a body bag as well. There were just so many times when Tommy could€™ve stepped back from the edge at any point, and I€™m going to focus on two key incidents. Firstly, he kills someone for getting his drink order wrong. We€™ve all had this done to us, and we all know it€™s annoying. But usually, it doesn€™t get past stern word annoying, not unprovoked homicide annoying. However, Tommy possesses no such sliding scale of fury, and just offs a bloke for no real reason at all. It would be this moment that you distance yourself from the man, or probably whack him yourself €“ clearly he doesn€™t know how to control himself, and would be naught but a liability to you. However, they let him get away with it, and he later beats a guy named Billy Batts to death for making a crack about him shining shoes when he was younger. Hey, we€™ve all been insulted in our pasts, and if Batts was your average street hoodlum, I suppose this would€™ve been ok, the sort of thing mobsters would talk about in hushed whispers when they describe the legend of the man. Unfortunately, Billy was a made man with the Gambino crime family, landing our main trio in a position where they could all be pulverised for his overreacting stupidity. If someone had just sat the guy down and told him €“ probably at gunpoint, because it€™s the only thing he really understands €“ that he was being a colossal asshat, then perhaps he wouldn€™t have been shot later. Mind you, if he hadn€™t been, we wouldn€™t have half the memorable scenes from this damn movie.
