20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2017

15. Alien: Covenant

Alien Covenant

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 68%

The disparity between critical and audience response to Ridley Scott's last two Alien movies is quite fascinating.

If you listened to fans, Prometheus was the Worst Movie Ever Made and a total blight on the Alien franchise, while critics broadly praised it as a visually impressive, well-acted and thoughtful - if flawed - sci-fi, resulting in a solid 73%.

The same thing happened with Alien: Covenant, which received mostly three-star reviews from critics, but the response from fans, who were naturally far more invested in the series, was wildly acidic.

And to be fair, the fans were right about a lot of things: the characters make bone-headed decisions, the movie jettisons a lot of what made Prometheus so interesting, and the final plot twist is hilariously obvious.

It really feels like most critics just gave the movie a pass because it looks nice and Michael Fassbender is great in it.
