20 Most Unfairly Hated Movies Of The 21st Century
4. The Counselor (2013)
Why It's Hated: The Counselor was savaged by critics and received the rare CinemaScore audience rating of D, with many complaining that Cormac McCarthy's philosophical dialogue bogged the film down and failed to give the superb cast enough to work with.
Why It's Unfair: Though it doesn't live up to anywhere near its maximum potential, this is nevertheless an uncommonly harsh, airy thriller with some terrifically pulpy dialogue.
The problem is that audiences were largely sold a more conventional, easy-to-digest thriller with a ton of action, and so when Ridley Scott served this up instead, people were naturally turned off.
It's minor Scott for sure, but with its savage bursts of violence and patient, slow-building suspense, it's easily the most underrated film in his entire filmography.
