6. The Snap - Avengers: Infinity War

You knew it was coming. Despite Infinity War's marketing playing up the possibility of Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapping his fingers and wiping out half the universe if he acquired all the Infinity Stones, fans were still left traumatised when the Mad Titan actually did it.

After a gallant attempt by the Avengers to stop him, Thanos clicked his oversized fingers and blinked half the universe out of existence in mere seconds.

Fans were forced to watch as Bucky (Sebastian Stan), T'Challa, Groot (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Peter Parker (Tom Holland) turned to dust.

Parker's "death" was obviously the most screwed-up of the lot, given his youth and clear knowledge of what was happening to him. But the real kicker? The Russos basically trolling fans by ending the movie with Thanos contentedly watching the sunset, his mission complete.

Even though most of the "dusted" will clearly be returning to life in a few short months, it was nevertheless heartbreaking to see so many beloved heroes not merely disappear from the world but turn into ash before our very eyes.
