17. Terrible Deepfake Catherine Keener - The Adam Project

The Northman Ethan Hawke
Netflix

Netflix's The Adam Project was a pretty enjoyable sci-fi action flick, as long as you could get over the utterly dreadful attempt to digitally de-age poor Catherine Keener, who plays villain Maya Sorian and her younger self from 32 years prior.

Far from Disney's many impressive feats of digital de-aging across the MCU and Star Wars franchises, here it looks more like Keener's smoothed-out face was awkwardly deepfaked onto a body double, which is almost certainly what happened.

Despite the film's $116 million budget, the effect ends up looking no better than what a semi-skilled deepfake artist could cook up on their laptop in an afternoon.

Considering young Maya's extensive role in the movie's third act, it's horrendously distracting watching her janky, poorly motion-tracked uncanny face sliding around on her double's head.
