20 Most WTF Movie Moments Of 2022 (So Far)

One of the Scream series' most defining features is the fact that its three focal heroes - Sidney (Neve Campbell), Dewey (David Arquette), and Gail (Courteney Cox) - have managed to survive each and every entry.

Until the recent fifth film, at least, which at the end of its second act committed the borderline-sacrilegious feat of killing off fan favourite Dewey.

While many fans had predicted this prior to the film's release due to trailer clips showing a traumatised Gail, the scene itself is still extremely disturbing and effective.

At the hospital, Dewey foolishly incapacitates Ghostface without finishing the job, and so upon returning to confirm the kill gets caught off-guard and brutally gutted, punctuated by Ghostface's instantly iconic one-liner, "It's an honour."

Though the scene does require Dewey to pick up the idiot ball and run with it, it was at least a genuinely horrifying kill and one which set an anything-goes tone for the third act.
