14. Trauma Surgery... In A Moving Vehicle - Ambulance

The Northman Ethan Hawke
Universal

Michael Bay's Ambulance is one of the most kinetic and chaotic films of the year, and there's no better evidence that Bay is finally in on the joke this time than the outrageous - and outrageously entertaining - trauma surgery scene in the middle of the movie.

After bank robber brothers Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Will (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) hijack an ambulance in an attempt to escape the authorities, they have to deal with the EMT in the back, Cam (Eiza González), who is desperately trying to save the life of a cop, Zach (Jackson White), who was accidentally shot during the heist.

As Zach begins to bleed out, Cam makes the last-ditch call to perform surgery on him in the ambulance, all while it's on the move from the cops.

Given Cam's inexperience as a surgeon, she calls up her doctor ex-boyfriend, who patches her through to other trauma surgeons, leading to an hilarious Facetime call as the docs try to talk Cam through the complicated surgery.

It's absolutely hysterical, and to make matters worse the iPad battery dies, leaving Cam to complete the surgery herself.

And because that's not traumatic enough, Zach's spleen ends up exploding anyway, splattering blood all over the place, though Cam thankfully still manages to save his life.

What a scene. What a movie. Never change, Michael Bay.
